Analog Resolver Wiring Conversion Chart

The nomenclature documented in the HS34 installation instructions currently differs slightly from the normal convention. The following describes how to resolve those differences.

Analog Resolver Function Definition

Below is how each pin on the HS34 analog interface behaves. The HS34 is built around the ARINC 407 standard, which defines how an analog resolver operates.


TO/From flag:

  • NAV flag is considered invalid when difference between VOR+TO and VOR+FROM is between +156mV and -156mV
  • NAV flag is considered “TO” when VOR+TO is more than +156mV higher than VOR+FROM
  • NAV flag is considered “FROM” when VOR+FROM is more than +156mV higher than VOR+TO
  • VOR+TO to VOR-FROM has a 1K impedance
  • VOR-FROM has a 2.5K impedance to 1.25V
  • VOR+TO has a 2.5K impedance to a voltage that varies from 0-2.5V


GS flag:

  • GS flag is hidden when GS+ is greater than +156mV above GS-
  • GS flag is shown when GS+ is less than +156mV above GS-, including negative differences
  • GS+ to GS- has a 1K impedance
  • GS- has a 2.5K impedance to 1.25V
  • GS+ has a 2.5K impedance to a voltage that varies from 0-2.5V
  • GS flag state is only shown when LOC flag shown


CDI Needle:

  • Needle is deflected full right when CDI+RIGHT is +150mV above CDI+LEFT
  • Needle is deflected full left when CDI+LEFT is +150mV above CDI+RIGHT
  • CDI+RIGHT to CDI-LEFT has a 1K impedance
  • CDI-LEFT has a 2.5K impedance to 1.25V
  • CDI+RIGHT has a 2.5K impedance to a voltage that varies from 0-2.5V
  • CDI needle is only shown when NAV flag is TO or FROM


GS Needle:

  • Needle is deflected full right when GS+UP is +150mV above GS+DOWN
  • Needle is deflected full left when GS+DOWN is +150mV above GS+UP
  • GS+UP to GS+DOWN has a 1K impedance
  • GS+DOWN has a 2.5K impedance to 1.25V
  • GS+UP has a 2.5K impedance to a voltage that varies from 0-2.5V
  • GS scale only shown when LOC flag shown
  • GS needle only shown when GS flag is hidden


Resolver:

  • ARINC-C (ARINC-A in HS34 documents) takes in a reference sine wave with a maximum amplitude of +/-18V peak against ground, and a maximum frequency of 1KHz. 1Kohm impedance to ground.
  • ARINC-H (ARINC-C in HS34 documents) is hooked to ground. This is the reference pin for the input sine wave, but is hard grounded.
  • ARINC-E and ARINC-G (E/B in HS34 docs) are tied together, and are the bias voltage for the output. Any voltage here will be a DC voltage on the output signals. Can vary from -18 to +18V. 28.8K impedance to ground.
  • ARINC-D (D in HS34 docs) is defined as ((ARINC-C * 0.89 * sin OBS) + ARINC-E/G). Max output range is +/- 18V vs ground. No drive impedance.
  • ARINC-F (F in HS34 docs) is defined as ((ARINC-C * 0.89 * cos OBS) + ARINC-E/G). Max output range is +/- 18V vs ground. No drive impedance.


DME:

  • Standard DME input of 40mV per NM
  • Measures 0-7.5V
  • 3K impedance to ground up to 3V
  • 2.3K impedance to ground above 3V


Markers:

  • Pull up "ON" - Pulled 100K to +3.3V
  • Pull up "OFF" - High impedance
  • Ok with up to 12V input in all configurations
  • Thresholds between high and low at 0.7V
  • Active state depends on software "active high/low" setting
