== User Waypoint Guide ==

Beginning with version 2.5, SkyView supports a "User Waypoint" feature. A User Waypoint is a point on the Earth which shows up as a yellow pushpin on the SkyView terrain map, like this:

When you have User Waypoints loaded, a new USR tab appears when you press NRST:

You can optionally attach a short note to each User Waypoint, which you can see under the INFO page for that waypoint:

User Waypoints can be very helpful:

- They can be used as a destination for a DTO. Since they can be placed anywhere, they are more flexible than using DTO to an Airport, NDB, VOR, or Fix.

- You can set up multiple User Waypoints in a sequence as a way to create and follow a basic flight plan.

- You can add a note to an individual waypoint to remind you of important information, such as tower and ground frequencies, noise abatement procedures, reporting points, pattern altitudes, or even just directions to a good nearby hamburger stand.

== User Waypoint DUP files ==

User Waypoints are stored in DUP files like Nav data and Obstacle data. You create them on your PC or download them from another source, and then load them like you would load a database. You can only have one User Waypoint DUP file loaded at a time, but it can contain any number of waypoints. If you like, you can create a small library of different User Waypoint DUP files, store them on a USB memory stick, and then load whichever one applies for a given flight.

== Google Earth==

Google Earth is one of the easiest ways to create User Waypoints. Google Earth is a free application provided by Google which gives you a satellite map of the entire world. It allows you to mark spots on the Earth using a feature they call a "Placemark".

You also need to install the Dynon USR Export Utility for Google Earth:


This utility reads Placemarks you create in Google Earth and creates a User Waypoint DUP file from them.

The procedure to create User Waypoints from Google Earth Placemarks is as follows:


1. Within Google Earth, first create a folder named "Dynon" under "My Places". This is required. Look for "My Places" in the sidebar on the left. Once you have created the Dynon folder, you should see something like this:

2. Decide where you want to drop a Placemark, position the map, and click the yellow pushpin icon to add the placemark. Google Earth will display the following screen:

You must enter a name in the "Name" field. The first eight characters of this name will be the ident used to display the User Waypoint on SkyView. Here we have simply used the name of the airport.

Optionally, you may also enter anything you like under "Description". Here we have typed in the UNICOM frequency and phone number for the FBO.

Do not change the "Latitude" or "Longitude" fields. The "Style, Color", "View", and "Altitude" fields are ignored by SkyView, so it doesn't matter what those are set to.

Click OK to save the Placemark. Make sure it gets saved under the Dynon folder as per the example:

If the Placemark is not in the Dynon folder, it will not be exported to the DUP file.

3. Create as many more Placemarks as you like.

4. Click File > Save > Save My Places, or simply exit from Google Earth to save your Placemarks.

5. Run the Dynon USR Export utility. For convenience, these instructions are summarized and displayed in the main screen of this utility:

6. Click the Export button. When prompted, choose a destination for the DUP file and a name.

7. Exit the Dynon USR Export utility.

8. Copy the DUP file to a USB memory stick. Insert it into the USB port of your SkyView display. Go into the Setup menu, System Software, Load Files..., then select the file and press LOAD. SkyView will load the DUP file and reset automatically. You are then ready to use your User Waypoints.
