Garmin 480 Wiring

Edit 11 Feb 2009 by Breister - We have two confirmations from people that they have gotten all functionality working as expected with v2.0 of the Garmin software or above.

NOTE!!! Version 2.3 of the Garmin software is the latest (and probably final) version, and you should GET THE UPGRADE!!! It is FREE - you just need to arrange with your local Garmin rep to get it done. Takes about 2-3 hours, and they provide you a new antenna which, together with the software, finally provides full WAAS / GPSS functionality.

On the GNS 480 side, only Input #2 accepts EFIS command. The HS34 has two sets of pins which will output ARINC, but that is only for convenience because both pairs output the exact same thing so you can use HS34 ARINC output #1 or #2. The only output setting is "Enable."

Final thought: May wish to keep the serial connection for GPS even if the ARINC proves to work with v2.3, as this would provide a backup connection in the unlikely event that the wires somehow failed in flight. This can be enabled / disabled in the HSI setup so that it does / does not appear on the list of GPS sources.
